Indie Week Band of the Day: Colornoise

By: Sheena Lyonnais October 14, 2013

There are few greater joys life can bring than the musical gems of experimental garage-rock girl bands. Colornoise is a duo from Costa Rica that consists of vocalist/guitarist Sonya Carmona and drummer Alison Alverado. They’ve got a darkness and a thickness to their tracks, emphasized in their video for “Time.” It tells the story of a hitchhiker predicting end times. “Time is a mistake. It doesn’t exist,” the video says. This psychology is woven deep into their material, which is smart and comparable to the Dead Weather. They describe themselves as noise rock, but they have more melody than that. Noisy yes, but there’s something magical about what this band is doing. A live performance may reveal exactly what that is.
