Alt-Country has been such a staple of Toronto indie, but Warped 45’s definitely stand out of the Horseshoe scene by being more country inspired, instead of drawing from the indie rock. Warped 45’s have been making such waves in the scene that they have a steady flow of gigs leading them across Canada until November 27th. Be sure to check out these up and comers before they become the next Blue Rodeo.
1. How are you doing and where are you right now?
We are in a good place. We have been laying our heads in Toronto when we haven’t been sleeping in our new used van.
2. There are a lot of bands playing NXNE, why should we watch yours?
There are a lot of bands and a lot of great ones at that so it would be hard to go wrong. That being said if you mourn the passing of No Depression magazine (in print form) we will probably suit what you are looking for.
3. What are you doing to prepare for NXNE?
We are preparing for NXNE and a west coast tour at the same time by having weekend long studio sessions so we can work in some new material. Also, looking for some new snap button western shirts.
4. What are you hoping to get out of the festival?
Well, it would be hard to top our 2009 NXNE when we won the Rogers fan choice award, but we hope to continue the momentum and get some new people out to see us perform.
We also look forward to getting that feeling that is the musical equivalent of festive eating where you are so full from gorging on new music for six days that all you can do is lay on the couch after satisfied and groaning.
5. Which act(s) are you hoping to catch during the festival and why?
Elliott Brood, Justin Rutledge, Romney Getty and The Great Bloomers
6. Tell me a tour story that is crazy but true.
We had a director on tour with us who was shooting a documentary on the band. What we didn’t know was that he suffers from night terrors. In the middle of the night all crashed out in a hotel room in British Columbia we were all awoken by a screaming director on his hands and knees over top of Dave shouting “HELP, HELP, HELP.”
Upon waking up we learned that he was trapped in a mine and the walls were closing in.

7. What are The Warped 45’s working on at the moment?
We currently continue to tour in support of our debut album Ten Day Poem for Saskatchewan, on Pheromone Recordings and are hashing out our new songs in preparation for a follow up recording session that we will begin this winter.
8. Which shows/events/BBQs are you playing?
We are playing at the El Mocambo Thursday June 17th
9. Where can we find out more about you?
10. Any last parting words for us music-hungry Toronto folk?
Rest up and build up your tolerances.
