Perhaps one of the farthest-travelling bands at this year’s festival, Australia’s Terracotta Pigeons are hitting Toronto for two shows during NXNE. Having just released their debut album Ever-Forever-Never and solidified their line-up, the hard rock band is coming to the city prepared to work. Frontman Steven Smith tells us more.
2. There are a lot of bands playing NXNE, why should we watch yours?
We’re flying all the way from Australia just to play our two shows at NXNE, the world could end before we get a chance to visit Toronto again and the last thing you want to regret is not seeing us play when you had the chance…
3. What are you doing to prepare for NXNE?
I’ve spent the past three months working my ass off to raise the money to get us there. I’m bruised and battered, but I think we’re good to go! We just played our album launch a couple of weeks ago, so we’re in the zone and excited about taking the show to Canada.
4. What are you hoping to get out of the festival?
With all the work involved preparing for this trip I haven’t really had a chance to explore the list of artists playing yet. I’ll be looking primarily for bands in our genre, purely because I would like to connect with some of those bands for future gig opportunities and to get their take on the rock scene in Canada.
6. Tell me a tour story that is crazy but true.
7. What is Terracotta Pigeons working on at the moment?
More of the live show really. I have a great line up who have been working with me now for over a year. Previously, I had a couple of line up changes and I felt the live show suffered a little because of it. Now it’s working great and I’m loving the vibe. The debut album Ever-Forever-Never has just been released, so I’ve been working at promoting that to radio etc.
8. Which shows/events/BBQs are you playing?
Bovine Sex Club: Thurs 17th June @ 11 p.m. sharp!
(542 Queen st .W, Toronto)
The Shop (parts and labour): Sat 19th June @ p.m. sharp!
(1566 Queen st .W, Toronto)
Also, we will be in Dundas Square on Thursday 17th at an NXNExpo booth from 12-2 p.m. So people can come down and say hi and we will have some giveaways and copies of the album there.
9. Where can we find out more about you?
10. Any last parting words for us music-hungry Toronto folk?
We’re a pretty friendly bunch and we’d love to meet ya’ll, so come on down and bring your friends to one of our shows! If hard rock music’s your cup of tea then we’re your two lumps of sugar…sweeeeeeet! See you in Toronto.
