Toronto’s the State of Things have an impressive resume of rock’n’roll accomplishments. Members have played in Vegasphere, Robin Black and & the Intergalactic Rock Stars and two of them just wrapped shooting their parts in Hard Core Logo 2 for their roles in another Toronto favourite, Die Mannequin. But do they have the attitude and shredding skills to back the hype? Bassist Dave Vasey weighs in on what we can expect at CMW.
We are doing great. We are at our rehearsal space rehearsing for our CMW showcase at Velvet Underground on Thursday.
There are a lot of bands playing CMW, why should I watch yours?
We have more individual experience than most of the bands out there. All of us have played in many successful bands including: Vegasphere, Robin Black & the Intergalactic Rock Stars and a few members are also currently in Die Mannequin. Bringing all that experience and our varied musical influences to one project resulted in the State of Things’ unique yet familiar sound.
Two members of our band just got off a world tour with Die Mannequin, and flew back from shooting the movie Hard Core Logo 2. It means everything to them to be apart of CMW. It means everything to the rest of us to be apart of CMW. Check out the music, video, photos and all the other info you will find on our Myspace and website and you will definitely get the idea of what to expect at the live show.
What are you doing to prepare for CMW?
Rehearsing, rehearsing and more rehearsing. We have also been promoting our showcase with posters, flyers, social media and plan on getting out there and networking during the conference.
What are you hoping to get out of the festival?
We hope to gain more fans from new people coming out to see our live set and also learn from the conference part of the festival by attending panels and catching up with industry folks. We will be releasing our debut full-length CD soon, so now is the perfect time to be a part of CMW.
Tell me a tour story that is crazy but true.
What happens on tour stays on tour. Come and see us live and we’ll make our own stories together.
What are you/your band working on at the moment?
Finishing up recording and mixing our full-length album and shooting the video for the first single.
Any last parting words for us music-hungry Toronto folk?
Love it or Hate it, this is The State of Things.
